My summer 09 is definitely ruled by nostalgic african vibes! Yesterday I finally found a collection of Mulatu Astatke Songs on ITunes (it was so rare and hard to get and now they sell it, yeah!!!). For all those of you who have never heard of him: He is the Grandmaster of Ethiopian Jazz! His compositions have the softest take-me-far-away melodies in Jazz I know. It's exactly the kind of music you want to listen to sitting outside in your rocking chair with some real nice red wine on a hot summer evening. And whilst sitting there staring at the setting sun, grab a book on Malick Sidibé's work. In the 60s and 70s Sidibé took like thousands of picture of African Party Folks in Bamako, Mali and became a kind of chronist for the young party generation back then (let's say he's sort of the african grandfather of glamcanyon *lol).
